Monticello

On September 17th we left Our park in NY,went back to my sister's house to retrieve our tow dolly, spent one night saying our goodbyes and headed South.

We did about 7 hours on the 18th and spent one night at Keystone RV Center at the PA/MD Border. It was just a water and electric site, but all we needed, and since it was
Passport America
, the price was right.

We had decided that we wanted to spend a few days in Virginia before we got to SC, so we checked our Passport and Camp Club USA Directories looking for a 1/2 price park near Charlottesville,VA. Connie had been doing some research and wanted to see if we could do Monticello.

On the 19th we headed for central Virginia and parked ourselves at Small Country Campground in Louisa,VA. It's a decent park about 25 miles from Charlottesville, and since we wanted to do Monticello (if we did anything) it was close enough for an easy day trip.

While we were there, we really didn't do too much at all. Connie had offered to make Lasagna for the SC Guild gathering, so we spent several hours finding a large enough grocery store in the area and shopping.

Connie spent the day after getting groceries making her lasagna so she didn't need to worry about having access to enough power for cooking. (the meeting was going to be on an island)

For two days we didn't do anything but hang around the park and took a couple of walks down by their small lake. It really was pretty nice just laying around and sitting still.

It wasn't until the last day we were going to be there that we finally got together the energy to go to Monticello and see Thomas Jefferson's place. I only have a couple pictures for you, cuz ya can't take any pictures inside Monticello. :-(

There were a bunch more flowers and a lot more scenery, but the pictures just don't do them justice.

The picture of the entrance ceiling was added, because of the compass. The arrow showing wind direction was actually attached to a long rod that goes up through the building structure and is attached to a weather vane on the roof.

Very cool technology in a number of areas of Monticello.

Hope you enjoyed, and ttfn.

I can't wait until the visitors center opens too, then everything will be all together. You missed the pretty leaves if you already left the VA area. There are so many good hiking spots up on skyline drive if you're making your way that way now.

I think Monticello is one of Jim's and my favorite places. Wasn't the bedroom alcoves innovative? And the clock on the inside the entrance door...amazing.

Last year as I was heading towards Livingston, I stopped at Monticello. Very cool. Jefferson's innovations were amazing. Well worth the visit.
